One incredible bird species that has been in decline in recent years but that we were lucky enough to see were the Tufted Puffins. WHAT ARE THOSE STRANGE CREATURES CLINGING TO THE ROCKS DURING A LOW TIDE Red Sea Cucumbers (Cucumaria miniata), Purple Sea Urchins (Stronglyocentrotus. There were also a fair amount of low tides in the 0.0 to 2.0 range (0.1 at 10:30 am on the 27th), which are still fine for checking out many of the reefs and tide pools. Ocean Haven is an oceanfront lodge with some of the best unobstructed views on the Oregon coast. It was great to see that the beautiful starfish that have been decimated by a virus in recent years are starting to recover, too. Checking the tide tables (using Waldport as a test case), I saw a minus tide on July 26 around 9:55 am and another on Aug 4 at 6am. I hope you'll have the opportunity to visit at low tide soon, and see the fascinating crabs, anemones, muscles, and so many other dazzling species up close and person. While the wildlife of the area face many challenges, including humans that don't always remember to respect their space and sensitive breeding areas, climate change, and a decline in fish populations, these folks are doing a tremendous job to educate the public and protect this spectacular nature place.
